Simple Baby Knitting Patterns Really Have A Special Place

You know some people think if they are not knitting some complicated, cabled, multi colored, or pattern changing baby knitting pattern, they are failures.  Well let me tell you, simple knitting baby patterns certainly have a very special place in my knitting repertoire. And I’ll tell you why, they’re simple.

Really, I’m serious. Can you knit a really complicated pattern if you want to spend time with your family, watching TV or a movie? If you are waiting in the doctor’s office and you are listening for your name to be called, can you pull out your terribly complicated baby knitting pattern and go for it? If you are taking a traveling vacation and you are riding passenger as you travel across the most beautiful scenery and you don’t really want to miss it but you want to knit also, is a pattern that you have to keep count and keep track of pattern changes, the best choice? Have you gotten my point yet?

In the above scenarios, a simple baby knitting pattern would fit the bill. You don’t have to worry about losing count or using more than your two needles and your not worry about the upcoming color change and you aren’t trying to keep track of your cable needles and when to do it next. It is just easy, simple and pleasant knitting.

I love mindless knitting, just me, gorgeous yarn and my two needles. A baby blanket, bath towel, wash cloths or bunting, it is simple straight forward wonderful simple baby knitting. Plus it is something that you will be able to complete in a reasonable amount of time. But what if you like those complicated patterns, I do.

You have to consider, how many doctor’s appointment, or movies or vacations will you have, watch or take. You can always work on your more complicated patterns when your life allows.

Maybe the moral to this story is, if you are serious about your knitting and you love it as much as I do, you will have all kinds of baby knitting patterns. Easy, simple, cables, pattern changing, color changing wonderful and always ongoing knitting patterns.

I have several projects in different stages of completion all the time. I think it is the true caliber of a fine knitter. And simple baby knitting patterns are among my most favorite. I hope yours too.

A Baby Knitting Pattern Can Give You Hours of Creativity

Whether you are new to knitting or an old pro, a baby knitting pattern is one that almost always tugs at the heartstrings. There are very few things that are sweeter and more fun to knit than baby blankets for a baby yet to be born or newly born.

These sweet baby blankets just seem to fly off the needle whether you are using an easy baby knitting pattern or a more advanced pattern. If you want something more challenging there are plenty of baby knitting patterns all over the internet and at your local knit shop.

Many times when you purchase yarn, the manufacturer will provide a pattern on the packaging, and many times it is a baby knitting pattern. In fact, they work very hard to make patterns that are ideally suited for specific yarn. I do recommend using the yarns recommended whenever possible in order to encourage these companies to continue to provide these patterns to consumers at no cost.

If you are looking for something a little different than a blanket to knit for babies, try finding a baby knitting pattern for a newborn hat or booties. These projects are generally quick to finish and a lot of fun. In fact, you can probably knit one to completion while waiting in the waiting room for the baby to make his or her debut.

Knitting can be a relaxing hobby it can also be a very challenging way in which to pass your time. Make sure, especially if this is your first knitting project, that you choose a baby knitting pattern that matches your abilities. In addition to choosing the right pattern, you want to make sure that you have all the extras you will need.

Follow the instructions on your baby knitting pattern in order to find out what size knitting needles, what type of yarn, and any other items you may need such as stitch markers. If you follow the instructions and have chosen an appropriate difficulty, you will be well on your way to a beautiful heirloom for some lucky baby.

Sometimes it is a good idea to buy some patterns that have multiple sizing offered in the pattern. If you discover that you enjoy that pattern or it is an easy knitting pattern that you can easily complete, you might knit it more than once. You could choose different yarn, color and textures and then knit it again as the baby grows.

Baby clothing is so small and so precious and yet so fleeting. Most babies will grow into and outgrow many outfits during their first year of life. While knitting isn’t exactly a cheap way to go, you can knit clothing for special occasions with whole skeins of yarn and even have fun knitting sweaters, hats, and such for babies out of remnant yarns that are similar in textures and weights. The trick always comes down to finding the one baby knitting pattern that will grow with your baby.

If you plan to knit many clothes for your children or even as gifts for other people’s children, I recommend keeping a notebook with a sample of the yarn and the care instructions for that particular yarn. If giving the clothing as a gift, be sure to slip the parents this information as well. You can simply tape the yarn label to a piece of notebook paper with the yarn beside it if you need to and hand it to the parents at an appropriate moment. This will save lots of worry and a few garments from accidentally becoming baby doll clothes.

A baby knitting pattern is often the most enjoyable to select. These patterns can also be quite frustrating to choose as well, they are all simply too cute for words and choosing just one when there are so many is often quite difficult. My suggestion for this is narrow the patterns down to 3 or 4 that you really like, then look at the difficulties of each pattern, the materials required for each pattern, and how interesting each pattern looks to knit. This will help you narrow your choice significantly. If all else fails, buy them all, I’m sure you’ll have the opportunity to use them eventually!

Don’t Be Intimidated, Just Use Easy Knitting Patterns

Maybe all this talk of baby knitting patterns and getting all excited about knitting for that new little loved one has intimidated some of you. Well don’t be, easy knitting patterns will be your solution.

You may not want to get too involved in a complicated knitting pattern at this stage of the game. But you also don’t want to be left out in the cold. Everyone else is knitting all around you, why not you too?

The trick to this is to start out with very easy knitting patterns. Usually a baby blanket will do very nicely. And get this, you can make an entire blanket with one single stitch. If you can learn to “cast on” which means get the yarn on the needles ready to start, then you can make a baby knitted blanket. The first stitch every knitter learns is the “knit” stitch.

Hold the needles in your two hands, hold the needle with the cast on stitches in your left hand and the empty needle in your right, hold the dangling yarn from your ball of yarn  also loosely in your right hand. Next slip the tip of the right needle into the back of the first stitch on the left needle, take your right hand with the yarn and wrap it around the tip of the needle now in the back of the stitch. Now gently pull the wrapped yarn through the stitch and let it slide onto the right needle and let the stitch that was on the left needle now slide off the needle.

Read that a few times. It is not complicated. The idea is that you are working the stitches off one needle onto the other needle and then you turn the project over, so that the stitches being knitted are always on the left needle. You work left needle to right needle.

And when you do one row after another of knit stitches it is called the garter stitch. And it is beautiful. Very squishy and when you use really soft wonderful baby yarns it is superior, and makes the most wonderful easy knitting pattern.

So don’t let anything stand in your way of making your first baby knitting pattern. Just start with an easy knitting pattern. You will love it!
