Double pointed needles for knitting. Great for knitting socks and knitting for baby. Terrific for take along knitting projects. How to and free pattern included

I love knitting on double pointed needles. Maybe because I love knitting socks. But Knitting in the round just works for me. Baby Booties or little baby hats are very fun to make. DPN knitting is not complicated. There is just one rule that must be obeyed when DPN knitting, You must not allow your thread to get twisted. When you obey this rule the rest is easy.

<img alt="th 000 0759 Double Pointed Needles for Knitting in the Round" src="http://th227.photobucket.com/albums/dd109/crunchymamamaine/th_000_0759.jpg" title="Cute baby booties knit on double pointed needles. "class="alignleft" width="160" height="106" />And Like all our previous conversations knitting for babies is very rewarding in many different ways, but mainly because it is easy to take along and it is quickly finished. You have to agree it is so empowering to actually finish a project. Most knitters have a half dozen projects started and have a little knitter’s guilt for not finishing then before starting another “must do” project.

But with knitting for baby, you can luxuriate in the pleasure of finishing a project. And remember my motto, Have knitted baby gifts completed and waiting for the next baby. You know how they just keep coming along, and when they do, You’re ready! It is such a win-win proposition. I love knitting for babies.

So here is some help if you are a little rusty on double pointed needle knitting.

Here is a quick video that demonstrates knitting with double pointed needles. You will see how doable this is. The video does assume you have some knowledge as to how to cast on to a needle. But the beauty of watching a tube grow as you knit is just a joy. Have a look here.

Here is a free pattern from Lion Brand Yarn for a precious little pair of booties. Remember if it asks you to sign in, It is a free account and there are thousands of free patterns there and they even make suggestions as to the yarn and needles you might want. Enjoy.

How many times have you wanted to knit some cute baby pattern but it required you to make cables. I am not sure why, but we are afraid of cables.

Maybe it is because we have to use THREE needles. Yes. two knitting needles and a cable needle. And sometimes you can’t find the cable needle that is the same size of the needles you are doing the main knitting on. So you just sort of fake it and make do with the size you have.

Well I am thrilled to share with you a fantastic find. Cabling without a cable needle. The following very short video explains how it is done. And the amazing thing you could adapt this to any baby knitting pattern, Use it as a trim or a part of the main body. Explore the possibilities. This makes an easy knitting pattern out of something more complicated. It is really cool!

I hope you become as excited about this as I am. Go knit something!

I have discovered some unused time in my life. It is soexciting because I am always looking for more time.

Really…I am too busy, I can’t find time to do all the thingsI need or better yet, WANT to do. I love to knit my baby knitting patterns. When am I supposed to do it?

I know you know what I mean! There is the house, the pets, the yard, the job, the online job, many of you have kids on top of that! When are we supposed to knit! For crying outloud!

Well like I said, I found some unused time. Very special andvery, up to know, hidden time… Riding in the car!!

When my husband and I are driving somewhere, he is driving,I am riding. Sometimes hours can pass with nothing more than stopping atMcDonalds for a fountain coke to complete the ride with.

Do you see where I am going with this? You bet! All thosehours can really be put to much better use. In fact the last 2 hour trip myhusband and I took, I completed a baby blanket I had started months ago, butcouldn’t find any time to finish it.

IT’S DONE!!

I am so thrilled. I am really excited. Sometimes I wasresistant when my husband would want to drive somewhere, but now I am ready togo. Before I felt it was wasted time, I had guilt, I should be doing somethingproductive or meeting some goal. Now I am doing just that. I am productive, andmeeting a goal.

I am relaxing and feeding my love of knitting.

It was a wonderful discovery. I hope you will put it to usetoo. Get those baby knit patterns out and get going! Hidden hours we each have in our week. Have fun with them!!

No, No, I am not sorry I started a new knitting project, but I am a very busy woman. I am a registered nurse working 3-4 12 hour sifts a week, and I am an online business woman, and I squidoo. So when do I have any time, especially free time.

Well, if you have read my blog at all, you know that I love knitting, I do every chance I get. One of my favorite times to knit is on break at work, I can actually have an uninterrupted hour of joy. So why am I lamenting?

Remember the blog post I made about the bargain yarn I found and bought, because I just had to have it, It was so beautiful, what was I to do, I bought it. Well after you buy something like that, so gorgeous, so must have, you eventually decide to make something with it. Thus the lament.

I started an adult knitting project. Can you believe that?! I now have a huge project going, it is so much larger than what I am used to. I have to change colors and it has cables, It is really very pretty, it is a sweater. I am sure I will love it, it is already very nice, but it is inconvenient and heavy and I can’t take it with me anymore, now that it is a bit too big to haul to work with me.

So now I am trying to force time out of thin hair, I want to finish it, really I do. But of course, I have stuffed my work bag with one of my baby knitting projects that is small, quick and easy to carry, and that I love so much.

I will finish my new project and I will wear it proudly. Maybe it shows me to be a grown-up knitter now. And what’s more I probably will do other grown-up knitting projects. I have enjoyed it and who knows I might someday find extra time just lying around, you never know. But for now, I am going to stick to my first love…baby knitting patterns.

There are some days I am certain two or three hours have gone missing. There just isn’t enough time! On some days it seems like not enough time for anything. No fun or play just work and clean and worry. I am sure you recognize in this world there is plenty to worry about, but I think that is the very reason we need to make time for play too.

Sometimes, it is the place to knit. Some people feel that they need a special place. That lovely rocking chair or a special craft room, or me, I love sitting on my deck in the evening, listening to the sounds of nature and knitting all my baby knitting patterns. But if I can’t get to my deck, maybe it is raining, should that mean that I don’t knit that day.

Sometimes, we have a schedule to keep, house to clean, meals to cook, children to bathe, an perhaps a job to work. Well some of us are so regimented that we will not allow ourselves the “luxury” of some “me” time. Rubbish! We need it!

If we have schedules to keep, why not “schedule” your time to include some knitting?

I guarantee you will never regret it. You will feel better, be happier and more tolerant of the world around you.

The point of this post is to encourage all of us, myself included not to forget the importance of allowing ourselves some relaxation time. To allow ourselves the opportunity to soul search or meditate or simply think of nothing. But to have the time to do something we really enjoy doing, in this case, knitting.

Think of the message we are sending our children. I am harried, frantic and grumpy because there isn’t enough time in the day. Or, I am important too, and I am going to make the best use of the time I have, balanced between work and play.

So go ahead and try it. Give yourself permission to enjoy the basic pleasure of knitting our precious baby knitting patterns.

Whether you are new to knitting or an old pro, a baby knitting pattern is one that almost always tugs at the heartstrings. There are very few things that are sweeter and more fun to knit than baby blankets for a baby yet to be born or newly born.

These sweet baby blankets just seem to fly off the needle whether you are using an easy baby knitting pattern or a more advanced pattern. If you want something more challenging there are plenty of baby knitting patterns all over the internet and at your local knit shop.

Many times when you purchase yarn, the manufacturer will provide a pattern on the packaging, and many times it is a baby knitting pattern. In fact, they work very hard to make patterns that are ideally suited for specific yarn. I do recommend using the yarns recommended whenever possible in order to encourage these companies to continue to provide these patterns to consumers at no cost.

If you are looking for something a little different than a blanket to knit for babies, try finding a baby knitting pattern for a newborn hat or booties. These projects are generally quick to finish and a lot of fun. In fact, you can probably knit one to completion while waiting in the waiting room for the baby to make his or her debut.

Knitting can be a relaxing hobby it can also be a very challenging way in which to pass your time. Make sure, especially if this is your first knitting project, that you choose a baby knitting pattern that matches your abilities. In addition to choosing the right pattern, you want to make sure that you have all the extras you will need.

Follow the instructions on your baby knitting pattern in order to find out what size knitting needles, what type of yarn, and any other items you may need such as stitch markers. If you follow the instructions and have chosen an appropriate difficulty, you will be well on your way to a beautiful heirloom for some lucky baby.

Sometimes it is a good idea to buy some patterns that have multiple sizing offered in the pattern. If you discover that you enjoy that pattern or it is an easy knitting pattern that you can easily complete, you might knit it more than once. You could choose different yarn, color and textures and then knit it again as the baby grows.

Baby clothing is so small and so precious and yet so fleeting. Most babies will grow into and outgrow many outfits during their first year of life. While knitting isn’t exactly a cheap way to go, you can knit clothing for special occasions with whole skeins of yarn and even have fun knitting sweaters, hats, and such for babies out of remnant yarns that are similar in textures and weights. The trick always comes down to finding the one baby knitting pattern that will grow with your baby.

If you plan to knit many clothes for your children or even as gifts for other people’s children, I recommend keeping a notebook with a sample of the yarn and the care instructions for that particular yarn. If giving the clothing as a gift, be sure to slip the parents this information as well. You can simply tape the yarn label to a piece of notebook paper with the yarn beside it if you need to and hand it to the parents at an appropriate moment. This will save lots of worry and a few garments from accidentally becoming baby doll clothes.

A baby knitting pattern is often the most enjoyable to select. These patterns can also be quite frustrating to choose as well, they are all simply too cute for words and choosing just one when there are so many is often quite difficult. My suggestion for this is narrow the patterns down to 3 or 4 that you really like, then look at the difficulties of each pattern, the materials required for each pattern, and how interesting each pattern looks to knit. This will help you narrow your choice significantly. If all else fails, buy them all, I’m sure you’ll have the opportunity to use them eventually!

Maybe all this talk of baby knitting patterns and getting all excited about knitting for that new little loved one has intimidated some of you. Well don’t be, easy knitting patterns will be your solution.

You may not want to get too involved in a complicated knitting pattern at this stage of the game. But you also don’t want to be left out in the cold. Everyone else is knitting all around you, why not you too?

The trick to this is to start out with very easy knitting patterns. Usually a baby blanket will do very nicely. And get this, you can make an entire blanket with one single stitch. If you can learn to “cast on” which means get the yarn on the needles ready to start, then you can make a baby knitted blanket. The first stitch every knitter learns is the “knit” stitch.

Hold the needles in your two hands, hold the needle with the cast on stitches in your left hand and the empty needle in your right, hold the dangling yarn from your ball of yarn also loosely in your right hand. Next slip the tip of the right needle into the back of the first stitch on the left needle, take your right hand with the yarn and wrap it around the tip of the needle now in the back of the stitch. Now gently pull the wrapped yarn through the stitch and let it slide onto the right needle and let the stitch that was on the left needle now slide off the needle.

Read that a few times. It is not complicated. The idea is that you are working the stitches off one needle onto the other needle and then you turn the project over, so that the stitches being knitted are always on the left needle. You work left needle to right needle.

And when you do one row after another of knit stitches it is called the garter stitch. And it is beautiful. Very squishy and when you use really soft wonderful baby yarns it is superior, and makes the most wonderful easy knitting pattern.

So don’t let anything stand in your way of making your first baby knitting pattern. Just start with an easy knitting pattern. You will love it!

While I was web surfing I came across this excellent article about baby knitting patterns and the perfect gift for a new baby or mother to be.

It made the point that we may think new mothers would have already bought everything they may want or need so why would they want us to utilize some of our baby knitting patterns? However she also makes the very valid point that a hand knitted baby blanket or whatever your choice may be is a perfect gift because it was made with your valuable time and your love. What can beat that?

This beautiful baby gift that was hand crafted from your baby knitting patterns with your two hands could turn into a cherished treasure. A family heirloom. Why not? At the very least it will be loved by the mother, and that is the point, isn’t it?

I have a friend that has 4 children, has already had all the baby showers a person could possibly want or need and she is still so excited about a hand knitted baby item that she is like a school girl. So don’t think Mom’s are passé about these wonderful baby knitting patterns, and the work and love that you put into them.

She also gives some very interesting tips about selecting the baby knitting pattern you intend to use. As well as yarn type, color and even sizing. She also gives some great tips on safety factors.

And with the expense of nearly everything in this world, cheap as well! I find that baby knitting patterns are the best choice as I usually have many projects going at the same time. Baby knitting patterns are quick enough that you can have that near instant gratification of completing a project.

I will see a yarn and just have to have it. So because the project total cost is so reasonable, I never have to have any guilt. And as we said the projects are small so having many baby knitting patterns going at once is excellent.

There are literally so many baby knitting patterns that you would never come to the end of your choices, sweaters, booties, hats, mittens, blankets, it is endless. I know I like to have the opportunity to do a whole outfit for the baby, so I will have several going at once.

And with the choices of yarn types, baby knitting patterns would never become dull or boring for you. There would always be a new surprise. They have so many soft and fuzzy and utterly charming choices that it seems like a gift to yourself every time you pick up your needles. And the colors! Not just pink and blue, much more for your imagination to run wild with.
