Double pointed needles for knitting. Great for knitting socks and knitting for baby. Terrific for take along knitting projects. How to and free pattern included

I love knitting on double pointed needles. Maybe because I love knitting socks. But Knitting in the round just works for me. Baby Booties or little baby hats are very fun to make. DPN knitting is not complicated. There is just one rule that must be obeyed when DPN knitting, You must not allow your thread to get twisted. When you obey this rule the rest is easy.

<img alt="double pointed needles" src="http://th227.photobucket.com/albums/dd109/crunchymamamaine/th_000_0759.jpg" title="Cute baby booties knit on double pointed needles. "class="alignleft" width="160" height="106" />And Like all our previous conversations knitting for babies is very rewarding in many different ways, but mainly because it is easy to take along and it is quickly finished. You have to agree it is so empowering to actually finish a project. Most knitters have a half dozen projects started and have a little knitter’s guilt for not finishing then before starting another “must do” project.

But with knitting for baby, you can luxuriate in the pleasure of finishing a project. And remember my motto, Have knitted baby gifts completed and waiting for the next baby. You know how they just keep coming along, and when they do, You’re ready! It is such a win-win proposition. I love knitting for babies.

So here is some help if you are a little rusty on double pointed needle knitting.

Here is a quick video that demonstrates knitting with double pointed needles. You will see how doable this is. The video does assume you have some knowledge as to how to cast on to a needle. But the beauty of watching a tube grow as you knit is just a joy. Have a look here.

Here is a free pattern from Lion Brand Yarn for a precious little pair of booties. Remember if it asks you to sign in, It is a free account and there are thousands of free patterns there and they even make suggestions as to the yarn and needles you might want. Enjoy.

How many times have you wanted to knit some cute baby pattern but it required you to make cables. I am not sure why, but we are afraid of cables.

Maybe it is because we have to use THREE needles. Yes. two knitting needles and a cable needle. And sometimes you can’t find the cable needle that is the same size of the needles you are doing the main knitting on. So you just sort of fake it and make do with the size you have.

Well I am thrilled to share with you a fantastic find. Cabling without a cable needle. The following very short video explains how it is done. And the amazing thing you could adapt this to any baby knitting pattern, Use it as a trim or a part of the main body. Explore the possibilities. This makes an easy knitting pattern out of something more complicated. It is really cool!

I hope you become as excited about this as I am. Go knit something!

I have discovered some unused time in my life. It is soexciting because I am always looking for more time.

Really…I am too busy, I can’t find time to do all the thingsI need or better yet, WANT to do. I love to knit my baby knitting patterns. When am I supposed to do it?

I know you know what I mean! There is the house, the pets, the yard, the job, the online job, many of you have kids on top of that! When are we supposed to knit! For crying outloud!

Well like I said, I found some unused time. Very special andvery, up to know, hidden time… Riding in the car!!

When my husband and I are driving somewhere, he is driving,I am riding. Sometimes hours can pass with nothing more than stopping atMcDonalds for a fountain coke to complete the ride with.

Do you see where I am going with this? You bet! All thosehours can really be put to much better use. In fact the last 2 hour trip myhusband and I took, I completed a baby blanket I had started months ago, butcouldn’t find any time to finish it.

IT’S DONE!!

I am so thrilled. I am really excited. Sometimes I wasresistant when my husband would want to drive somewhere, but now I am ready togo. Before I felt it was wasted time, I had guilt, I should be doing somethingproductive or meeting some goal. Now I am doing just that. I am productive, andmeeting a goal.

I am relaxing and feeding my love of knitting.

It was a wonderful discovery. I hope you will put it to usetoo. Get those baby knit patterns out and get going! Hidden hours we each have in our week. Have fun with them!!

It occurred to me one of the reasons I love knitting for babies is the yarn. I mean really have you thought about this? It is soooooooo soft and squishy, hold it next to your cheek and you feel calm and gentle and you think babies. So what am I saying here, we all know baby yarn is great. Well here it is, wait for it…

Baby yarn should be used for us adults too!!

Yes! I mean it. What stops us from using this incredible yarn for some little something for ourselves? Oh I am not suggesting you use it to knit an ensemble. We know that it would take dozens of balls of yarn to make an adult outfit. But it would not take too much to make a scarf, can you imagine that up against your neck and face on a cold wintry day? I can.

So I had to try it. A few posts ago, I told you about that phenomenal deal I got on some fabulous baby yarn on my day trip. It was fantastic! But I didn’t really have a plan for the yarn. I’m sure you have done that yourselves. You see a beautiful color, or wonderful texture and you impulse buy it or the contingency plan that you will, of course, have an opportunity to use it eventually.

So I decided to use it for me. I made one of those little neck kerchiefs that really hug your face, one tail of the scarf slides into a loop on the other end and it snugs up to your chin. I love it. And it is so SOFT!

What can I say? It was brilliant. I had so much fun. Hey I like knitting for me too. I sure you do too. Try some baby yarn next time.

Try this pattern, it is so elegant and beautiful. And when you use baby yarn it is to die for. So nice because you can make it any size you like. Based on how much yarn you have and how much energy you want to expend.

The pattern is in multiples of 10, so just cast on how ever many you want for the width of your choice. Use any size needle you want, realizing that a larger needle is going to take more yarn. Enjoy.

No, No, I am not sorry I started a new knitting project, but I am a very busy woman. I am a registered nurse working 3-4 12 hour sifts a week, and I am an online business woman, and I squidoo. So when do I have any time, especially free time.

Well, if you have read my blog at all, you know that I love knitting, I do every chance I get. One of my favorite times to knit is on break at work, I can actually have an uninterrupted hour of joy. So why am I lamenting?

Remember the blog post I made about the bargain yarn I found and bought, because I just had to have it, It was so beautiful, what was I to do, I bought it. Well after you buy something like that, so gorgeous, so must have, you eventually decide to make something with it. Thus the lament.

I started an adult knitting project. Can you believe that?! I now have a huge project going, it is so much larger than what I am used to. I have to change colors and it has cables, It is really very pretty, it is a sweater. I am sure I will love it, it is already very nice, but it is inconvenient and heavy and I can’t take it with me anymore, now that it is a bit too big to haul to work with me.

So now I am trying to force time out of thin hair, I want to finish it, really I do. But of course, I have stuffed my work bag with one of my baby knitting projects that is small, quick and easy to carry, and that I love so much.

I will finish my new project and I will wear it proudly. Maybe it shows me to be a grown-up knitter now. And what’s more I probably will do other grown-up knitting projects. I have enjoyed it and who knows I might someday find extra time just lying around, you never know. But for now, I am going to stick to my first love…baby knitting patterns.

A wonderful Step by Step Guide to help you start knitting those beautiful baby knitting patterns

As we have talked about several times, knitting is a wonderful hobby, and knitting baby patterns is especially wonderful because of the less time and expense involved in choosing, and completing a project. Sometimes you can have a project started and you happen to find a beautiful must-have yarn. What do you do? Buy it of course.

You do know that you can never have enough yarn. I have three trunks full of yarn, baby yarn, and yarns suitable for older people projects. What are the advantages of this? Well I’m glad you asked.

If you have yarn readily available, there is never such a thing as boredom or being unprepared ever again. If it is a rainy cold day, I can spend hours going through my yarns and choosing the one that I will start a new project with. And if I get word that someone is having a new baby, I am instantly ready to get their gift ready for them.

But best of all it is wonderful to just collect the beautiful textures and colors and it makes you feel good. We have already talked about how buying baby yarns and baby knitting patterns is never going to break the bank due to the small size and thus smaller amounts needed. So you can afford to increase your stock without guilt. And always be ready.

There are many places to find good bargains on yarn and patterns. There are the regular brick and mortar stores that you can shop, especially this time of year, you can find fantastic bargains. But if you can go online, there is no end to what you can find. Any store that is in a mall that you might drive to, you can shop at online. And you can find coupons online to make it even more affordable. You can even find tons of free patterns on and off line.

One of the absolute best places to find unlimited free baby knitting patterns is at your local library. Knitting is so popular these days that a good public library will offer a very wide selection of knitting books. This provides you with basically limitless pattern choices. Using the library also gives you the option of checking out multiple books at one time so that you can search for the absolute best pattern for your particular project. An added benefit is that you have the full-colored example to guide you while you’re working on your project. And, if you decide you really like the book, you can always buy a copy for your own personal library.

If you have a computer or access to one, a whole new world of free baby patterns opens up for you. Of course, many knitting-related sites provide free patterns in the hope that you will purchase their knitting yarn or other knitting supplies. However, with the increasing number of personal blogs online, you can now find many avid knitters who enjoy sharing their personal baby knit patterns for free. Since everyone doesn’t necessarily know about these blogs, you have the option of making a one-of-a-kind item for your special baby.

It is endless fun and adventure in shopping and then hours of crafting joy! Hey what are you waiting for, get to shopping and knitting!!

I had a most wonderful time on my vacation recently. My husband and did one of those stay-cations, you know where you stay home It was so nice. No packing, no huge laundry when I got home, minimal expense.

Well anyway, we did several daytrips and one of them was to a little tourist town in mid-state Michigan, called Frankenmuth. It is wonderful, it is an actual little German town that was settled over a hundred years ago. It is still a functioning town with their own government and fire station and police etc. but its bread and butter are the tourists. That would be me.

We make a pilgrimage to this town once a year. And I look forward to it for several months. Not only do they have the best food, quaint little ships, and friendly people, they have yarn!

Yes! Yarn. There is ship there called Rapunzel’s. It is a shop of the most extravagant yarns and patterns and needles and people that enjoy knitting and crocheting and they love to talk about it, show you how and give you examples. And they always have really great sales. They would have to because their yarn is so outrageous I can’t afford it. Oh sure, it is the coolest yarn, you know unusual yarns, alpaca, cashmere, huge hanks of yarn that will roll for you. Which of course is part of the whole experience.

Well I couldn’t wait to get there. I walked in and was greeted like an old friend. I started immediately to touch and smell and drool over all the beautiful selections. The ladies were showing me this and that patterns and what could be done with them. They are such great sales people, but I held my ground, I knew what I was going for.

And then there it was. The most beautiful yarn ever, a large hank of multi-colored soft fluffy wool, so soft, so beautiful. I loved it, it had to be mine.

But Wait! I firmly believe in never paying retail and I am a great shopper, so I walked slowly toward it, I lingered just at the edge of the table before I finally picked up that gorgeous yarn and flipped over the price tag and …….

Well what did you expect? Of course, it was the best deal in the store. I got that $28.50 hank of yarn for $12.00! Yes! It was on sale.

So what is the point of this little story? There is yarn out there that is calling your name, that is priced exactly right and is going to show when you want it most. When it just has to be yours… that is when it will find you.

Now go shopping and knit something perfect!
